Brain Bleed 5/13/25

Is the purpose of a fish to swim? To breathe underwater with its gills? Or is it to eat smaller fish in the pond? Maybe instead to be eaten by bigger fish in the pond?

Is it to be caught by a fisherman? To be cut up into filets for us to enjoy over a glass of wine? Or to be put on display in a tank at a restaurant, aquarium, or someone’s home?

Or is it to avert the hook? Maybe it’s to live in defiance of that which we use it for?

Do we assign the fish its purpose? In subjective, personal, egotistical ways, maybe. But objectively? No.

What would the fish say if we asked it of its purpose? It would say nothing. It's a fish.

But if the fish could talk, and you grabbed it from the pond to ask it what its purpose was, it would probably say:

”Put me back in the water, asshole”
